Alan D. Guerci, MD
Physician and health system executive. Dr. Guerci is the CEO of Catholic Health Services of Long Island (CHS), a six hospital, three nursing home, home nursing service, and hospice, $2.2 billion a year corporation. From 1984 until 1992, Dr. Guerci was the Director of the Coronary Care Unit at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 1992, Dr. Guerci accepted a mixed administrative and research position at St. Francis Hospital on Long Island, the flagship hospital of CHS and a nationally ranked heart center. In 1999, Dr. Guerci became the CEO of St. Francis Hospital, and in 2013, the CEO of CHS. Dr. Guerci is a graduate of Harvard College and Cornell Medical School. He trained in Internal Medicine at the University of California San Francisco and in Cardiology at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Guerci served on the Clinical Trials Review Committee of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health for seven years (the last three, 1998-2001, as Chairperson), and he holds a master’s degree in Health Care Management from the Harvard School of Public Health.
